Commissioner Update #1

Hey everyone,

This is my first official Commissioner update — something I plan to send each month to keep you in the loop about what’s really happening at the county level. Just to be clear, this message reflects my personal perspective and experience— not the official stance of Ingham County.

This month, I want to update you on three things:

  1. 🧠 Big news from our most recent board meetings

  2. 🏡 Upcoming community events and housing programs

  3. ✍🏾 How you can get involved with local government

🧠 Crisis Support Added to 911 Dispatch

Starting June 2, 2025, Ingham County 911 will embed a licensed mental health clinician directly into the dispatch center. This collaboration with Community Mental Health (CMH) is designed to better support callers experiencing mental or behavioral health crises. This is a major win for public safety and smart, compassionate service.

🚨 Eaton County Public Safety Millage Fallout – Why It Matters

At our recent Law & Courts Committee meeting, we discussed how Eaton County’s failed justice millage may affect Ingham County. With that millage failing again:

  • Eaton may drastically reduce sheriff staffing and eliminate animal control on the road.

  • Ingham’s Sheriff and Animal Control teams are bracing for potential strain, especially as Eaton residents attempt to bring stray animals across county lines.

  • This millage has failed twice now. You can read more on it here.

We’re keeping an eye on the situation and will share updates after more formal conversations with Eaton leadership.
